Edible but Gruesome, Realistic Body Parts Made of Bread

I saw these “bread artworks” if you can call it that a year ago or so. They’re made by Thai artist Kittiwat Unarrom who uses dough as his medium to sculpt gruesome renditions of hand, feet, heads, torsos and other body parts.

Breadbodies

From looking at the photos, the results look really realistic with eyes, lips and other details constructed out of cashews, raisins and the like. A lack of hair and blood-like glazes make the work all the more creepy.  I’m not sure I could stomach actually eating one of these.

Sold at his family’s bakery in Ratchaburi, Thailand, he displays the parts wrapped like food in plastic and hung from meat hooks. Apparently, the art is in fact edible and tastes like regular bread.

Watch the video below to see Unarrom at work and some visitors’ reactions.

London Peace Pagoda 23rd Anniversary

On this Saturday afternoon (14th June), interfaith prayers and a series of short speeches for peace will be followed by Thai music and dance - and free refreshments - at London’s Thames-side Peace Pagoda in Battersea Park.

Peace-Pagoda

The celebrations take place annually to mark the anniversary of the opening of the pagoda, part of a chain of shrines to world peace which, though they are Buddhist buildings, are designed to provide a spiritual focus for unity between people of all religions.

How to Spend 36 Hours in Chiang Mai, Thailand

The New York Times posts an excellent suggestion on how to spend 36 hours in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

BLESSED with a cooler climate than Bangkok and buffered by lush mountains, Chiang Mai has long served as a backpacker’s gateway to Thailand’s northern reaches. But an influx of Thai artists and Western expatriates has turned this quiet city into a vibrant destination in its own right.

Chiang-Mai1

Design studios have sprung up in town, fusing traditional Thai with modern twists. Age-old curries are now paired with Australian red wines and croissants.

Chiang-Mai2

The area around Nimanhaemin Road now looks like South Beach, packed with BMWs and Art Deco homes, alongside contemporary art galleries run by young Thais with purple hair and nose rings.

Chiang-Mai3

But traditional Chiang Mai is still there. Walk away from Nimanhaemin into the old city and you’ll see shaved monks meditating and backpackers chowing down on banana pancakes.
