Music Video: Cantonese Boy – Parody of Estelle’s American Boy
This very funny parody of Estelle’s American Boy takes the Cantonese Boy angle, and is by Only Won and Larissa Lam, two Chinese American Artists in LA!
Love the Cantonese/English lyrics and the references to Causeway Bay, Tsim Sha Tsui, nerdy glasses, Tai Chi, gaming, Honda’s and more!

In-Cha – Young Vioin Superstar
In-Cha, a 12 year old Taiwanese South African seems to be the next big thing after Vanessa Mae. She’s a violin playing musician who’s blending her work with a bit of hip hop and R n’ B.

In-Cha started playing the piano at the age of 4, but fell in love with the violin after going to a concert with her Mom at the age of 6. This resulted in her Mom securing private tuition lessons for her with the renowned Professor Vincenzo Lo Castro.
Not easy to impress, he instantly recognised her talent and potential as a violin soloist and thus In-Cha’s career in music began in earnest.
In-Cha is the youngest South African to pass her Grade 8 “Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music” classical violin examinations which she did with a distinction.
Find out more on In-Cha’s website
Thanks Elaine!

Sa Dingding : Amazing Chinese Music with Tibetan, Mandarin and Sanskrit
With her unmistakable unique voice and distinctive musical vision, Sa Dingding represents an original creative passion affected by ethnic diversity and shaped by a modern China.

Sa Dingding creates a mix of Tibetan, Mandarin and Sanskrit built around traditional Chinese folk music but exquisitely executed with refined use of programmed electronic sounds and beats in tandem with Chinese instrumentation, creating a totally original blend. The songs are inventive and adventurous, as she switches between soulful ballads and gutsy Tibetan-influenced chanting.
If you’re in London this Friday 7th November (2008), you can catch her at the ICA. Otherwise, check out her website where you can hear samples and use the link to get her music on iTunes.

Interested in listening to a selection of historical and contemporary music from China? 14 tracks have a set to sample and buy : Beyond the forbidden city…

From 14tracks.com
The country has a musical tradition as diverse and sprawling as its numerous ethnic groups, and it would be virtually impossible for us to offer anything more than a fleeting glimpse at its tremendous musical legacy, but it has been an amazing experience picking these tracks from just a handful of its seemingly endless regional and historical varieties, including a couple of contemporary pieces made outside the country itself.
These 14 Tracks hopefully capture the mysterious and impenetrable essence of a culture that most of us know very little about, hidden somewhere beyond the forbidden city…
