Strange Chairs for China Art Exhibition

As part of the China Chair Project art exhibit, artist Xiang Yun created this chair and footstool shaped like a prickly cactus from a hand-molded silicon!

Xiang Jing also created this Jabba the Hut-style chair. Looks like it will swallow you up if you sink into it!

Sumo Wrestler End Table

I looked twice when I saw this, and I’m not so sure it was for a good reason! This Sumo Wrestler table might appeal to some people, I’m sure, but I did give a wry smile thinking that it was a joke at the expense of the sumo professional. I.e. as they begin their charge, someone places a glass top on them and tell them to “hold it right there“!

The table is eye-catching no doubt and I can’t argue that it’s East-Asian inspired. It would take a bold shopper to purchase this, but I just don’t think its as witty as Allen Jone’s table sculpture.

Enlightening Buddhas - Buddha Lights from The Lighting Consultancy

I came across these desk-sized Buddha Statue lamps in the window of the lighting consultancy SKK Lighting in London (they were closed) yesterday. As you can see, they had a white (which they say can have a colour-changing bulb inside) and a red one, but the statues also come in gold, silver, black, blue, orange, green and pink as well.

They look quite modern in a sense that the details are clean and simply designed, so having them as statues in your personal altar might be acceptable to the more design conscious. The fact that they light up is an added bonus if you also simply want to light up different areas of your house!

Naoto Fukasawa Demonstrates the Impact of Materials in Design

Japanese designer, Naoto Fukasawa, demonstrates the impact of materials in design.

Naotofukasawa

All of these chairs are identical in size and shape, but there’s one important difference between them. Each chair is made from a different material. One’s marble. Another’s redwood. The others are in concrete, acrylic, wickerwork, attaché-case metal, polyurethane foam, felt and even hay.

If you’re dreaming of Nintendo Game & Watches, cakes, or weddings, then you might like these Mario and Luigi hats. Except they’re actually cushions and not real, wearable hats. So you CAN only really dream of Nintendo. If you know what I mean…

Buy them for $29 (each?) at NCSX
