Having lived in Hong Kong the past eight months, we’ve yet to be in the country when a T8+ hits, let alone witness the view when it hits the skyscrapers. However, this beautiful time lapse video shows four successive rain walls between 7am and 9pm from June 2009’s Typhoon Nangka.

Pop Wuping posts the following image of a Chinese pawn ticket. Apparently, in the 1950s, most small Hong Kong shopkeepers still used an abacus for calculations, and a brush rather than a pen for their accounts and receipts. Bits of ephemera like these seem to be rare in current times, but I still look out for them when traveling.

A previous post about the truckers of Japan show that they colour their vehicles with beautifully painted landscapes and details, whilst at night, their fluorescent handiwork shines through with bold and colourful light displays.

Labeled Decotora, short for decorated trucks, we came across radio controlled scale models of a couple of designs in Hong Kong’s City Super stores. Not sure if they’re sold anywhere else in or outside Hong Kong.

Last year, Hong Kong lifestyle store Goods of Desire (G.O.D.) released a set of four butt-shaped moon cakes which definitely added humour to the Mid-Autumn Festival. See the previous post here.

Well, they’ve done it again for 2009 but with an additional four new variations giving you eight asses to choose from!

Each moon cake is individually packed in a box resembling a Chinese calendar with the date of the Autumn Moon Festival. However, you won’t be able to identify which style you get, so if you want all eight, you gotta buy at least eight boxes. Shrewd business, but if you’re traditional, you’ll stick with eight-anything anyway…

Fans of The Godfather films and designer toys will love this new figure by coveted Hong Kong figure artist Michael Lau. The Godfather figure is the first product from MINDstyle’s Godfather licensing deal with Paramount.

This figure will be released at the “Family Tradition” art exhibition on Sunday, July 19th @ De La Barracuda in Hollywood.
