Below, a National Geographic video feature on that most putrid smelling of fruits, the durian, also known as the king of fruits, common in parts of East Asia. If you come across this spiky object, you would most likely have smelt the pong first.

Like the buses in Singapore (where they’re banned), the durian fruit is not for me.

These are the superb watermelon carvings by Hotel chef Takashi Itoh from Tokyo. He began carving melons in 2001 after being inspired while on holiday in Thailand. It usually takes him one hour to carve, though simpler designs can take only twenty minutes.

Korean designers Maezm created the Table-Dish-Cover, a silicon table cloth with integrated dishes. Looks like the sizes are perfect for kimchi with your main meal!

The flexible, injection-moulded silicon product is spread over a table at meal times and then removed and washed afterwards as a complete unit.

Argh – there are some thing I wouldn’t even try once and this is one of them. Real spiders used as pizza toppings!

Mr. Matsuba of the Insect Cuisine Eating Association, owns the pizzeria in Okinawa that sells these arachnopizzas. You can see him preparing the dish in the video below as well as a tough-looking dude sampling it.

Apparently, Matsuba also makes beetle pizza too.
