Delicious Looking Vietnamese-Style Coffee on a Stick Popsicle

For hopefully a long Summer, YumSugar describes how to make these deliciously cooling coffee popsicles.

Using Vietnamese-style coffee - with sweetened condensed milk and strong coffee, (traditionally served over ice), its simple to make. This is one way to have a hot drink, cool.

Snake Wine from Vietnam

Argh - do you have a yearning for Snake Wine?! Check out this experience from a writer at 40cozy.

Snake-Wine

Snake wine is made by taking your best Vietnamese whiskey, and then going out in the jungle and finding a snake. Along the way you pick up any roots, herbs, scorpions and whatever other tasty tidbits you want to add. You take your snake, whiskey and random goodies, put them all together in a great big jar and let them sit there covered for about six months. At the end of six months its ready to drink.

“The Vietnamese say snake wine is good for all kinds of things. Its the medicine of the people. Some say its “good for your banana”, while others say it cures rheumatism and arthritis. Others just tell you it gets you nice and drunk. There is no question, however, that after drinking snake wine you feel it. You feel it in your veins and in your mouth and in your head. Everything has a hard-to-explain buzz to it. And the flavor… what can I say about the flavor? Probably the best way to describe it is it tastes like rotten scales and whiskey.”

Amazing Fish Dish

This amazing fish dish comes courtesy of my friend Martyn U’ren, whilst on his travels in Vietnam. The presentation is pretty unique with serving the fish upright - I wouldn’t want to touch it for both destroying the beauty of it and collapsing the dish itself!

Update : Martyn has just informed me that this is an elephant ear fish which he ate in the Mekong Delta in South Western Vietnam.

The Fantastic Fantasy Art of Hoang Nguyen

ImagineFX have posted an interview with Vietnamese artist Hoang Nguyen.

Art-Hoang-Nguyen1

From ImagineFX.com:

“I’m trying to capture a mood or a moment lost in time. That’s most appealing to me.”

Marcel Proust believed that art could be used as a key to unlock memories hidden from our recollections. Hoang Nguyen is coming round to the same conclusion.

Its 2007, the Year of the Pig! Top 10 reasons why pigs make great pets

It’s the Year of the Pig, so of course the first thing that springs to mind is a pet pig right? This site has some info I didn’t know about why pigs (specifically Vietnamese Pot Belly pigs) make great pets.

Pig1

Top 10 Reasons Pigs Make Great Pets

  1. Price is around the same amount as a pedigree dog or cat
  2. Non-allergenic in most cases
  3. Clean and odor-free
  4. No fleas
  5. They are about the size of a medium sized dog
  6. Long life span (12-20 years)
  7. Non-destructive, unlike a puppy
  8. Quickly trained: litterbox, tricks, walking harness, etc.
  9. Low maintenance: annual vet visit, generally stronger immune system than a dog or cat
  10. Intelligent, Social, and Communicative

Hm. For some reason, I would still prefer a dog or cat..

Remember, a pig is for life, not just for new year…

Look! Ahh.. Year of the Dog hands over to Year of the Pig!
