Bruce Lee home to house his museum

The Guardian reports on Bruce Lee’s Hong Kong town house to be converted into a museum.

Bruce-Lees-Two-Story-Town

The Hong Kong townhouse which was once home to martial arts legend Bruce Lee is to be transformed into a museum in his memory.

The move comes after the building’s owner made the surprise decision to donate it to the city where the kung fu icon first shot to fame, and follows a long-running campaign by fans. The two-story 5,700 sq ft (529 sq metres) building had been languishing as a downmarket love motel where rooms could be hired by the hour.

Owner Yu Pang-lin, a hotel and property tycoon, announced yesterday that he had agreed a joint plan with the Hong Kong authorities to convert the building into a tourist attraction. “I’m 88 years old now and hope that while I’m still alive I’ll be able to see this Bruce Lee museum completed,” he said.

The townhouse, where Lee was living when he died under mysterious circumstances in 1973, will contain a recreation of Lee’s original study and training hall, complete with martial arts weapons used by the actor in his films, as well as a library and cinema.

Bruce Lee Plays Ping Pong with Nunchucks

As part of the Nokia Bruce Lee promotion, here’s my man destroying his ping pong opponents with just his trademark nunchucks instead of a bat. Funny, but cool.

Bruce Lee Moments

Hoping for a Bruce Lee moment? Not a finger pointing, or a face-twisting spine crushing stamp, but having a gorgeous Italian beauty approach you.

The Legend of Bruce Lee Trailer

Here’s the trailer for the previously posted TV series “The Legend of Bruce Lee“. Its a full six minutes long and shows a bit of the action alongside the quieter moments typical of a biographical story.

Not sure if the series is going to broadcast outside of China but it might be released as some kind of DVD set.

CGI Bruce Lee Footage

Here’s some footage of various attempts to recreate Bruce Lee with CGI. Some of it is a bit ropey, but that’s fine considering this seems to be dated 2002.

Quick movements come across better that some of his trademark gestures methinks.

I’m looking forward to the day that someone can recreate Bruce Lee – not just his physical presence but also his charisma, which is a real challenge with CGI.

Bruce Lee – The Musical, slated for Broadway

A musical production about Bruce Lee is in the works and will be entitled “Bruce lee: Journey to the West“.

Bruce-Lee-Imgone

The elements of a quality Broadway musical can be difficult to master. It takes finesse, agility and poise. However, the elements of a Bruce Lee performance could prove even more difficult.

Notwithstanding, for the 2010-11 season, this martial arts master will see reincarnation in the form of a Broadway production.
David Henry Hwang will write the book. Hwang is known for M. Butterfly and Yellow Face.

Bartlett Sher will direct, who currently helming the revival of South Pacific at the Lincoln Center, which has garnered him 11 Tony nominations. David Yazbek, of The Full Monty, will compose the music and lyrics.

The plot will interweave Bruce Lee’s ascent to stardom with Chinese mythology about the Monkey King. The musical is also intended to weave Chinese pop and culture throughout, making for the full experience.

Enticing “The Legend of Bruce Lee” Upcoming TV Series Photos

A set of photo compositions from the forthcoming television series “The Legend of Bruce Lee” were released last Monday as a warm up for the TV biopic on the life of the Kung fu superstar. I previously posted about this series before.

Legend-Bruce-Lee-01

A news release on sina.com.cn reports that the TV series will be broadcast before the Beijing Olympics. Starting from the beginning of 2008 Bruce Lee fans from around the country will be invited by China Central Television (CCTV) to activities relating to the series.

Based on the life of Bruce Lee, “The Legend of Bruce Lee” will reveal many untold stories about the superstar for the first time. Hong Kong actor Danny Chan Kwok Kwan plays Bruce Lee in the TV series. The actor, a Bruce Lee fan himself, is well known in Hong Kong for his roles in comedian Stephen Chow’s films “Shaolin Soccer” and “Kung Fu Hustle.”

Bruce Lee is Wooden?

For the previously posted The Nature of Water exhibition (Art inspired by Bruce Lee), Mike Burnett created this original wooden, interactive sculpture of Bruce Lee.

The parts are strung together with fishing wire for flexibility so that pressing the spring loaded base puts the legend through his moves. Reminds me of similar toys we used to have as kids, way back before Nintendo etc. This is so cool, it would be a great idea for a designer toy!
