Nike, Kobe and Bruce Lee – Enter The Dragon Sneakers

Whilst we’re not ones to pick up anything and everything tagged with Bruce Lee, we felt it was our duty to announce these Nike basketball shoes for 2010. They’re themed according to the legendary Bruce Lee’s Game of Death.

Called the Kobe Bryant Zoom V (5), the inspiration may have been more Kareem Abdul-Jabbar than Kobe, but then, there are also three cuts on the right side of the shoe which come from Enter the Dragon. Go figure.

Thanks OSneaker!

Buying Bruce Lee Toy Figures

Whilst OneInchPunch is currently based out of Hong Kong (normally in the UK), we’ve been scouring the toy scene and becoming intimately acquainted with the 1/6th scale figure format. There are plenty of shops in Mong Kok and a few in Sham Shui Po and Causeway Bay.

Cinemaquette Bruce Lee

Cinemaquette-Bruce-Lee

One figure that’s on the shopping list is Bruce Lee (of course). We’ve yet to decide on the perfect purchase, as the one that’s most realistic, (which we consequently found online from the US) costs a cool US$1500. It’s from Cinemaquette, a figure we’ve previously posted about, but which currently lists as available to buy on their site. The Cinemaquette Bruce Lee looks pretty good and actually uses real human hair, but it’s just so pricey. Check it out on this link:

Cinemaquette Bruce Lee for US$1500

Enterbay Bruce Lee

If US$190 sounds more realistic, then a brand to keep your eyes on is Enterbay. They’ve produced a series of Bruce Lee figures in the past (based on his various films), which although are out of stock on their website, can be seen for sale on Ebay.

Bruce-Lee-Kato

However, they’re currently selling a figure of Bruce Lee as Kato from The Green Hornet. Not good enough? Keep an eye on Enterbay as their blog shows forthcoming Bruce Lee statues in the works.

Bruce Lee Kombat King

While we’re at it, we also came across these designer vinyls which are hand made by 2PetalRose and hand painted by One Sixth Bruce artist Sickboy:Custom. To date, the Game of Death figure looks like its still available to buy online – coming out of the UK at £69.50

2PetalRose x OneSixthBruce – Bruce Lee Kombat King for £69.50

Does anyone know about any other decent Bruce Lee figures?

Happy shopping!

The Marketing of Bruce Lee

The New York Times posted an article about the efforts of Bruce Lee’s daughter, Shannon Lee, on marketing the late superstar’s brand and image.

Bruce-Lee-Ny-Times

Although she is undoubtedly the strongest link to The Man, it’s a task that seems far harder than it sounds, since Bruce Lee passed away when she was only four, and the estate doesn’t seem to own very much material or rights to much of his work.

Ip Man’s Last Student Leung Ting – Classes in Hong Kong

Not as famous as Bruce Lee, Leung Ting is nevertheless still a former student of the late and enigmatic Ip Man who popularised the art of WingTsun (also known as Wing Chun) and whose life story was the toast of Chinese cinema late last year.

Low-key Leung still has a class, held every Saturday night inside a nondescript building in Yau Ma Tei, Hong Kong, although since he is in his 60s, no longer attends in person.

How Bruce Lee Changed the World

To mark the 35th anniversary of Bruce Lee’s death, the History Channel will air a new two-hour documentary, HOW BRUCE LEE CHANGED THE WORLD on May 10th, 2009 at 8pm ET.

Bruce Lee1

Produced in cooperation with Lee’s family, this documentary looks at how the actor and martial artist’s legacy has shaped and influenced the world since his death.

From the History Channel press release:

He was able to perform superhuman physical feats that have yet to be equaled, such as a two fingered push-up and a lethal blow called the one-inch punch.

Since his death, Lee has been recognized as a visionary who changed not just action movies and martial arts, but an icon that created this very simple image that is endlessly reproducible to this day. From his role as Kato on television’s “Green Hornet” to his groundbreaking debut film “Enter the Dragon,” Lee blew up the stereotype of how Asian characters would be portrayed on screen forever. With no one able to fill the void after his death, a rash of Bruce Lee look-alikes and copycat films emerged inspiring a whole new film genre.

A cinematic journey, this special takes the viewer across the US, Asia and Europe exploring Lee’s influence on popular culture worldwide— even joining Shannon Lee on a trip back to her father’s roots in Hong Kong; nearly fifty years after Lee arrived to make his first kung fu film. HOW BRUCE LEE CHANGED THE WORLD also features in-depth interviews with actor Jackie Chan, comedian Eddie Griffin, rappers LL Cool J and RZA, Marvel Comics’ Stan Lee, and renowned film directors John Woo and Brett Rattner among others. Lee’s friend and business partner famed Hong Kong film producer, Raymond Chow gives a rare interview.

Nunchuck Lighter

If Bruce Lee smoked, this would be his lighter. Its a flame lighter contained in one end of a chrome metal pair of nunchuks.

Lighter-Nunchucks

Not that he would have smoked of course. But then the other stick contains a flashlight which he wouldn’t need either since he could see in the dark as well as punch within an inch.

The flame lighter nunchuck is 9 1/4 inches full length.
