Artist Draws Every Meal He Eats

Artist Riki Takaoka documents every meal he eats by drawing or painting it. Now if that isn’t a way to keep up speed art abilities, I don’t know what is. Unless he takes his time and eats all his hot meals cold.

You can check out his diet on his website at Riki’s Food Blog

Ming Manga Mashup – Cool Mecha China Fusion Ceramics by Brendan Tang

Brendan Tang is an Asian Canadian Artist who works in Ceramics. Brendan contacted us with details of his work, which on the surface, is a remix of old world China and new world Japan. The output is some unique and fantastic work that fuses together mecha parts with traditional Chinese vase designs!

Brendan-Tang-Manga-Ormolu1

The work conceptually touches on issues of cultural appropriation, hybridization and body/technology relationships.

I also loved Brendan’s series, Santa is dead which explores the power of technology as a tool of social conditioning. Brendan skins, dissects and displays children’s “interactive” toys in an empirical fashion, intending to literally reveal the lifeless, corporate underpinnings beneath the seemingly innocent exterior of these plush toys.

Korean Artist U-Ram Choe’s Amazing Kinetic Sci-Fi Sculptures

Korean artist U-Ram Choe constructs these kinetic creature sculptures that mix science and technology with art.

Uram-Choe1

Inspired by science fiction and the otaku culture of manga and anime, his mechanized vision of nature – replicating flowers, insects, birds, and sea life – references both the medieval and the futuristic.

KOIBITO Carp Person Designer Toy by Japanese Artist Yoskay Yamamoto

This funky fella caught my eye. Its the Koibito which according to its Japanese artist creator Yoskay Yamamoto, is a “loved one“. Reminds me of The Host

Koibito1

From MunkyKing:

Yoskay Yamamoto is a rising Japanese artist in the LA art scene. His varied work spanning painting and sculpture blends pop iconic characters from his new Western home with traditional and mythical Japanese elements, balancing his Asian heritage with urban pop art. Central to his work the is combination of apparently innocuous human characters with larger than life mystical forces and symbols.

Says Yoskay:

“Once upon a time I had a goldfish named Tuna.
But he passed away because of my laziness and mistreatment….
So I painted him for his memory…….
But at same time Koibito symbolizes the sense of alienation that I felt growing up in Cali…
It’’s kind of like the phrase ” fish out of water”….
I felt and still feel like I don’t completely fit in my environment……both in Japan and the US……”
