Pint-Size People Pull Pints in Manila

The Hobbit House bar in Manila is always short-staffed – owing to its pint-sized workers there! The place, created by Jim Turner, an Iowa native who first came to the Philippines in 1961, employs dwarfs and other little people.

Having first employed a couple of little people as doormen (!), Jim was soon deluged with requests from others looking for work. He later opened the Hobbit House in 1973 and employs little people as bartenders and waitstaff, who apparently come mainly from the slums of Manila. The jobs offer them an escape from their typical second-class status as freaks.

It’s a cool sounding place with alot of heart!
