Chinese artist Yang Yi’s Haunting Submerged Buildings

The Three Gorges Dam project along the Yangtze River is the world’s largest engineering and construction site and has displaced over 1.2 million people and destroyed 11 cities.

Where there are now homes, they will be completely submerged when the project is completed in 2009.

Chinese artist Yang Yi’s hometown is one such place and the situation haunts him even in his dreams.

He captured the remaining scenery before it disappears forever and using both photography and digital techniques, Yang Yi created images that depict a ghost town engulfed by water, whose scarce inhabitants (fitted out with masks and snorkels) go about their daily routines like lost souls.
