Origami Blog Site
Origamiblog.com is a website dedicated to the joy of origami - concepts, products and inspiration.
I recognise some immediate posts as links that have featured on OneInchPunch before, but nevertheless, there are some good things in there too. I like the non-paper items like the chair or the fabric items…

Kinky Japanese Surreal Art
Mari Yamagiwa is a very original Japanese painter, mother, musician and sometimes model from Kyoto (Japan).
She has a unique personal style, with challenging and teasing erotic psychedelic aspects. Her work can be described as “kinky surrealism”.

Made in Hong Kong - Buy Hand Picked Hong Kong Products from Design Shop Kiosk
Every so often, NYC design shop Kiosk rotates in an entire stock from an individual country.
Past nations have included Japan and Sweden, and the latest is China, or more specifically, Hong Kong.

They range from a paper Ping-Pong set (made for burning during Chinese funerals) and a scarlet lampshade (insert “red light district” joke here) to so-called harsh tobacco, which is exactly what it sounds like (and comes in a cool matchbox-sized paper container).

The selections are also online, where you can peruse owner Alisa Grifo’s oddball product descriptions, like the one of the pictured handmade knife: “Zing! Only nine fingers left!“.
See the shop at KioskKiosk.com but hurry before they move onto their next country!

China Design Now Exhibition at the V&A Museum in London
London’s Victoria and Albert Museum hosts an exhibition titled China Design Now from the 15th March until the 13th July, 2008.

From the V&A’s website:
“China is huge. China is becoming topical. Yet China remains mystery to most people in the West. ‘Made in China’ has become a familiar tag, but the spectacular creative energy in modern China is barely known. During the last twenty years, the Chinese have rediscovered their pre-socialist past and begun to combine their own traditions with global influences to produce a cultural rebirth. At the heart of this lies a new culture of design.
“This exhibition will take you on a journey along China’s coastal cities to experience the country’s creative landscape. The journey starts in the far south, where graphic designers in Shenzhen began to explore new directions in the early 1990s. Next we move up to Shanghai. Here consumerism and urban culture have combined to produce astonishing fashion and lifestyles. Finally, we travel to Beijing, where monumental architecture for the Olympic Games is transforming the skyline of this ancient capital.
“China Design Now explores China’s dreams and hopes over the last two decades, from individual designers to the nation as a whole. It is our hope that this exhibition will bring contemporary China closer to you.”
