Korean Snacks : Silkworm Pupae

“Literally meaning pupa or chrysalis, beondegi are popular Korean street snacks, often dished out by the cupful to eager passers-by.

“The stewed and seasoned silkworm treats come highly recommended as bar bites. Next time you crave a quick mouthful on the go, grab a can of these crunchy chrysalises.”

Someone tell me these aren’t real!!

It is healthy food and tastes really good. I love this snack after I had this in KOREA.

As crazy as it sounds, I have a can of these in my middle school science classroom. I inherited them (along with a bunch of dead animals) from the previous science teacher when he retired. I didn’t know what they were til I read your post. Not that it makes me any more inclined to open the can…

it is a pity that they’re REAL! :)
i’m a korean and to me it’s funny to see foreigners get shocked by those kinds of things.
in fact, not all koreans enjoy them these days but you can still find them easily at grocery stores.
come and try, if you like.

The funniest part about pupa is that it’s a food Koreans ate because they were poor as shit and couldn’t get anything else. Nowadays they refuse to admit that pupa taste like hell because of Korean pride, but yes, they definitely taste like shit. (i’m half Korean and lived in korea for a few years). Get over it already, just because something is supposedly healthy doesn’t mean it tastes good.
