Three-Legged Chopsticks from the Milan International Home Show

EternallyCool notices these three-legged chopsticks at the Milan International Home Show this year. They apparently work a bit like tweezers making it easier to grasp and consume food with grace.

It sounds like an interesting concept, far away enough from a two-pronged utensil, joined at the held end, which always seemed liked a culinary version of a bike with stabilisers. It might make a good talking point when at an East-Asian dinner. God knows, we need to talk a bit more around the table…

Insect Kirigami - A Variation of Origami

Here are amazingly lifelike kirigami artwork creations of a Japanese artist named Taketori.

Kirigami is a variation of origami where the artist is allowed to make small cuts in the paper. This enables the artist to enhance the visual presentation of the artwork, at the expense of simplicity. In traditional origami, papercutting is strictly prohibited.

See more Kirigami (click on the link in Japanese right below “kaguyahime” for a gallery)

Viennese design studio, Feinedinge, created these beautifully made rice bowls and dishes. They include a hole with which you can park your chopsticks to stop them rolling around.

Excellent, Rare 60’s and 70’s East-Asian Pop Singles

I just came across an excellent gallery containing scans of rare 60’s and 70’s East-Asian Pop Singles. I’m too young to know of any of these, but they do look like something my parents have in their collection (of LP’s). Definitely worth a look!

Differences between the Chinese and the Germans : An Infographic Exhibition

Chinese Artist Yang Lui has a brilliant Infographic exhibitionOst trifft West“  (”East versus West“) highlighting the differences between Germans and Chinese.

This exhibition was live at the German Ministry of foreign affairs between May - June 07 and includes simple infographics that depict humorous differences between the cultures.

Below, with the Germans in blue and the Chinese in red, are how they queue, a weekend street scene, voices in a restaurant and as individuals.

Cosplayer Photos from the Toyko Game Show

I’ve always been fascinated by Cosplay - a Japanese subculture where participants dress as characters from manga, anime, tokusatsu, and video games. They also make these costumes themselves, which makes it all the more impressive. A pastime which stems purely from a passion in the art. Here are some shots from the recent Tokyo Game Show.

How to Make a Custard Green Tea Snowskin Mooncake

Swee posts a good looking alternative to the traditional-style moon cakes on her blog Foodaholic, which certainly look tastier than the previously post Nokia Moon Cakes!

She makes these with a combination of custard and green tea lotus paste. Check out her blog to find out how to make these.
