Hong Kong Picture Moment : The Kowloon Walled City – The Most Densely Populated Area on Earth

To find out how people live in different parts of the world can be fascinating. Sometimes you wonder how other people can live in certain conditions, and sometimes you’re glad you don’t have to. The Kowloon Walled City makes me think like that.

“Supposedly the most densely populated area on earth before it’s demolition in 1993, the Kowloon Walled City in Hong Kong had buildings so cramped that most residents didn’t see sunlight.”

Some Stats:

Area – 0.026 km²
Population prior to demolition – 50,000 approx
Population density – 1,900,000 / km²

By comparison, the City of London has a population density of 4,669

I think Mong Kok, up the road is now the most densely populated area..

I have read a book about this place and i had a bad picture in my head but this is worse than i can imagine. I t shows how lucky i am and how we take so much for granted. I will now feel obliged to give to charity. I am only 12 so i cant do much at the moment but wait a few years and ill help other people in the world. Speak 2 u soon.
