Endangered Hong Kong Wet Markets
Cuisine has a universal appeal that transcends all countries and places like China and Hong Kong are famous for creative dishes that include interesting ingredients.
Street markets contain these ingredients, sometimes whilst still alive (!) but they’re not just a place for food. Hong Kong’s “wet markets” are hives of activity, and hubs of communities. Places which bring people together whilst fish flip out of overflowing tanks, chickens squawk, and unusual, colourfully prepared foods are presented.

However, these markets are in danger of being stamped out by the Hong Kong Government. The blog, Elegant Sufficiency, describes the scenario further and includes a link to sign a petition to Save the Street Market.
It would be a shame to see these markets go. I’m sure others as well as myself, have fond memories growing up and visiting these markets amidst the colour and life they exude. And if they go, its a lively part of East-Asian culture that goes with them.
