Japanese Key – as Key “Ring” Jewellery

Japan-Ring

Swiss Miss came across keys re-fashioned as rings on Kiel Mead and thought it was a great idea as a parting souvenir to have your old house key made into a ring.

I love the idea of repurposing older, perhaps useless material items into giving them a sense of meaning and to create sentimental value.

Kiel Mead offer a range of such keys, above of which is their Japanese Characters Ring.

this aren’t exactly re purposed or useless material for that matter
an outlet states ‘Sterling Silver cast by hand in New York City’

Yes, you’re right – I was just talking about the idea of repurposing, but I wrote it as if the Kiel Mead keys are also repurposed.

So – to be clear – the Kiel Mead keys aren’t repurposed and are definitely not made of useless material (unless you define Sterling Silver as ‘useless’!).

When I was first making these rings I tried to make them out of real keys. However there is a lot of nickel in keys and after a certain radius they just break. So I ended up having to go with silver to fully execute the idea. My favorite one is the Mercury Messenger. -KM

Thanks Kiel – I won’t waste any keys then! Not that I’d risk keys that are still useful anyhow. Nice work on the rings though..

How can I purchase one of these rings made out of a key. I love it. So original.
