Dog “exploited” to welcome customers at Chinese store
I’m pretty sure that there must be many more dogs being used like this around the world.. A Chinese store owner has dressed up her pet dog in jeans and a t-shirt to welcome and attract customers.
The dog, wearing his distinctive outfit, sits on the front step of the leather goods shop in Suzhou city. When a customer comes in, he will smile, and bark in welcome, apparently. And when a customer is leaving, he will bow, expressing thanks.

Paul Merton in China : excellent new travel documentary series
A new four part travel documentary series called Paul Merton in China will begin on Monday 21st May on Channel Five in the UK. Each 60 minute episode will see the British comedian cast a “wryly observant eye” on China’s new cultural revolution, looking at all aspects of China, including the “ancient and modern, comic and shocking, copycat western and vibrantly oriental”.
Merton is a well-loved national figure and there should be a lot of interest in what promises to be an excellent series. Apparently, the look of the footage may also resemble the boldness of Chris Doyle’s (Director Wong Kar Wai’s cinematographer) work.

Fish-flavoured ice-cream from Japan
Eek! Fish-flavoured ice-cream from Japan! Weird foods are plenty in East-Asia (to us in the west anyway), but although fish and ice-cream are two perfectly normal ingredients, combining them together just seems wrong!

Hello Kitty Bento - deliciously put together
Ahh… Hello Kitty Bento.. regardless of the fact that these are obviously meant to look cute, I can’t help but think that there is Hello Kitty, made vulnerable, and about to be torn apart by hungry kids. In fact, Hello Kitty looks like its about to be engulfed by the surrounding vegetables.

Cool-kitsch Oriental Dragon Statue Speakers
Oh dear, another one for the kitsch-but-no-thanks list? Actually, I admit I like these dragon speaker designs. They look like those stone statues you find outside restaurants, gates, and on the streets of Chinatowns worldwide. Except they have these cool metallic blue in-built discs to pump out your Notorious MSG or MC JIN.
These currently stand at just over 12 inches however and are only at design concept stage.

More art from previously posted David Choe. There are some photos of him and his latest work on (literally) the walls of Facebook’s offices which have two multi-level buildings.
