Hong Kong picture moment : Hello Kitty sushi

Hk Hellokittysushi

Of course, it’s not surprising that a country such as Hong Kong that is so fond of toys, gadgets and cute stuff has an abundance of Hello Kitty merchandise. But Hello Kitty sushi?! Tasted good apparently.

Korean director, Park Chan-wook’s “I’m a Cyborg, But That’s OK” film minisite

Check out this website for Korean director Park Chan-wook’s film “I’m a Cyborg, But That’s OK“. Its a brilliantly conceived bit of Flash work, depicting a pop-up book with charmingly animated structures which inflate as you turn each page.

Park Chan-wook is a South Korean director and screenwriter who is internationally renowned for what has become known as his “vengeance trilogy”, consisting of 2002’s Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy in 2003 and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance in 2005.

Bruce Lee lives on… apparently

Brucelee

Lisa Katayama says - Bruce Lee lives on! As much as Bruce fans would like, its still only in terms of making more movies about him and his life however. Filmmaker Justin Lin has a new film called Finishing the Game which takes a humorous look at the period after Bruce’s untimely death with the search for a replacement star that could fill the void.

There are a few video clips to watch, of the man himself and his inferior imitators. Lisa also mentions a project by director Rob Cohen (Dragon : The Bruce Lee story) which plans to bring back the master with computer graphics. More disappointment? No… this time, we have CGI to wow us… apparently.

Bruce Lee lives on, on Wired.com

Update: See a clip of Finishing the Game on TokyoMango.com, previously missing on the Wired article above.

Hong Kong picture moment : Lion dancers practising

Hk Liondancers

UK lion dancers have nothing on these guys (well, not that I’ve seen yet, unless of course, Health and Safety rules are holding them back on their public displays). I came across them training near Ting Kok village in Tai Po.

They start at the short end of these poles, and then dance and hop almost simultaneously to the highest poles on the end (imagine them with the lion head and tail linking them together). And you can see that all they have is the mattress on the end to break their fall! I like the way that the guys sitting in the chairs seem relaxed, obviously trusting the skill of the dancers.

Hong Kong picture moment : Bruce Lee in the Avenue of Stars

Hk Brucelee

A visit to Hong Kong isn’t complete without a tribute to the man himself. But it really made me cringe when everyone else had their photo taken with the statue and tried to strike a lame Bruce Lee pose.
