Hong Kong picture moment : Lion dancers practising

Hk Liondancers

UK lion dancers have nothing on these guys (well, not that I’ve seen yet, unless of course, Health and Safety rules are holding them back on their public displays). I came across them training near Ting Kok village in Tai Po.

They start at the short end of these poles, and then dance and hop almost simultaneously to the highest poles on the end (imagine them with the lion head and tail linking them together). And you can see that all they have is the mattress on the end to break their fall! I like the way that the guys sitting in the chairs seem relaxed, obviously trusting the skill of the dancers.
