Kan & Lau – graphic design firm from Hong Kong
Probably famous thoughout East-Asia, but not as well known in the UK, are designers Freeman Lau and Kan Tai-Keung. Their firm Kan & Lau Design Consultants, specialise in corporate identity, literature, annual reports, brand identity and packaging design, and have been running since 1976.
Their website lists their impressive track record and polished client list, so they’ve no doubt underlined their place in East-Asian graphic design. I heard that they’re regarded as godfathers in the Hong Kong design industry – definitely one for the contacts list, if possible.
However, I bet they don’t need to do much day-to-day design any more – there’s probably a long waiting list of young designers wanting to work their ass off for them for the prestige. However, I can’t complain, I was lucky enough to have spoken with Freeman Lau when he visited the ICA in London to give a talk as part of a Hong Kong – London creative exchange. He passed my company details to a colleague of his and we got a decent project out of it!
