Jackie Chan meets Chaplin – Tae-kwon-do, acrobatics and slapstick comedy..
6th Feb – 14th Apr, 2007. The West End (London) and Edinburgh Festival favourite is back! “JUMP” is an adrenaline-packed display of Tae-kwon-do, jaw-dropping flips, dazzling acrobatics, sword fights and perfectly-timed slapstick comedy from acclaimed Korean company Ye-Gam Inc.
I caught this show at the Hackney Empire in November 2005, and although I’ve seen a fair bit of martial arts entertainment in my life, this is definitely worth ticking off your list!
Storyline takes a back seat, as set comedic pieces create the excuse for energetic ensembles. Light hearted gestures turn split-second into flips, jumps and spins. Physical play conveys humorous confrontation with fake mockery and emotion. The occasional dialogue displays child-like fun. And just when you predict a cliché, the unexpected happens and the actors take the fun to a new level!
The show is on at The Peacock Theatre (in Sadlers Wells) between 6th February and 14th April, 2007.
The free London newspaper, Metro, are running a promotion where if you call 0870 737 0337 and quote “Metro £15 offer“, you can get the best seats (normally £34) for £15. Applies only to shows between 6-23 Feb. And subject to availability, terms etc.
For more information, show times, a gallery and video clip visit the Sadlers Wells website.
If you can read Korean, find out more about the team behind the production here.
