David Tang becomes patron of The Pearl Awards, UK
Hong Kong businessman David Tang, of Shanghai Tang and China Tang, has just become Patron of The Pearl Awards.

The Pearl Awards, based in the UK, celebrate the achievement of individuals and organisations of Chinese origin, for their work towards raising the profile and creating a positive image of Chinese people in multi-cultural Britain. Now in its fourth year in 2007, the awards have been growing in importance each year, and with David’s involvement, its profile will only increase.
One Inch Punch think this is very cool. Firstly, because David brings a wealth of experience and contacts, both in business and in society. (Expect to see Jackie Chan and Michelle Yeoh serving the canapés at the next awards in September. Ok, I was just kidding about the canapes.) And secondly, because we like the idea of his Chinese clothing label Shanghai Tang, where the fundamental design concept is inspired from traditional Chinese clothing combined with the modernity and dynamism of the 21st century.

Chinese Laundry bags and Louis Vitton
I just came across this very witty post on The Shanghaiist, who discovered that Louis Vitton elevated these crispy, plastic laundry bags to high fashion in their latest show. They look familiar?

They’re the bags your grandparents lugged their stuff in. Your parents wanted you to take them to university. And franky, you wouldn’t be seen dead taking the trash out with them.
Well, now you know. Farmers use them in Shanghai, and you better scrounge them back from your parents if you wanna stay cool. Throw out the LV clutch!
The most fashionable people in China: Migrant workers
Anyone got any photos with themselves or friends / relatives livin’ it up with these bags? Send them in to be featured in our future One Inch Catwalk!

Hello Kitty vs Space Invaders (phone strap)
Retro cool and a Japanese icon - awesome! It looks good, but after thinking about it, a Hello Kitty phone strap, no matter how pixelated, is not for me…

Darren Soh - Singapore photography
Singaporean Darren Soh has a photography portfolio up at FullFramePhotos.com. Exteriors, interiors and portraits from Singapore, the photos portray stereotypically clean environments. There are corporate shots, which are just, well, corporate, but if you don’t mind loading up a pdf document that’s just over 1 MB, have a quick look.

Picture moment : floating newborn Chinese baby
“A newborn baby floats in a basin at a hospital in Nanjing, China, on January 12, 2007.”
From Activate.us
I heard that babies born in water is the natural thing to do, but was this one just dumped into the basin afterwards? I can’t tell whether this one is about to cry or is just in shock. And is its head held in place?

Picture moment : feet nibbling fish beauty treatment
“As part of a beauty treatment, a model dips her feet into a tank containing the Oreochromis species of fish in Singapore on January 16, 2007.”
From Activate.us
If you can stand the tickling, this looks like the laziest treatment you can get. Rock on nature!

Mo money, mo inches - 200 Inches and a PS3 games console
Gizmondo.com have posted a shot of a Japanese gadget critic’s set up, which features a 200 inch screen with a PS3.
Personally, I’ve only experienced “Formula One” on a PS2 on a big screen (projector) and its awesome - the small screen has never felt the same since. But check the comments on the Gizmondo post - they bitching (out of jealousy I bet) about the cost of the HDMI cable! I’m using my time to find out how big a screen I can afford..
